The American Turf
Flyers, Inc. (ATF) is a charter club (#1599) of the Academy
of Model Aeronautics. We were organized in 1981. In the fall
of 1990 we moved to our current home, ten acres of farmland
East of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Nine years later we paid off
the mortgage and now completely own our facility. We also
own the water line that services our facility. In addition,
we lease an additional ten acres, five each on the North and South
ends, to provide for longer-than-normal landing activities. |
Fitzgerald Field (named after the club president at the time
the land was purchased) is located 8 miles East of County
Line Road in Broken Arrow, Ok. To get to Fitzgerald Field,
take 71st (Kenosha Ave.) East from County Line Road and turn
North (left) at Hansen Road. Hansen road will be 1 mile east
of the stop sign at Coweta Road. Hansen road is gravel. Go
North on Hansen road for ½ mile and our facility will
be on your right (East side).

Our facility features a 400-foot north/south asphalt runway, a 600-foot parallel grass runway, paved taxiways and paved start-up areas with hold-downs. Ample covered shelter area
is provided along with a fully equipped heated and air-conditioned
club house with both men’s and women’s restrooms. Drinking
water, electricity, refrigerator and pop machine are provided and
the clubhouse has a small kitchen. Two concrete heli-pads are located
at the North and South ends of the pit areas for helicopters/turbines
or engine tuning and work. There is also a large concrete pad with
taxiway for large scale aircraft or jets. There are ample electrical
connections in the shelter areas for chargers, etc. There are no
trees, houses, hills, highways, etc., in the proximity nor are we
in the controlled airspace of any airport.
We have club instructors and club trainer aircraft with buddy-box
setups so that persons new to the hobby can get started
and achieve a comfortable skill level before attempting to fly their
own aircraft.
The flying tends to be somewhat “laid back” and new
flyers and those undergoing training are allowed to fly without
having to worry about being pressured by a sky full of different
aircraft flying in different directions.
